Perched Somewhere

Bismillah Ehrehmaan Niraheem,

She sat humming –
perched against the side of the star
she had been placed upon –
swinging her feet from side to side,
with the beat of the nightly,
mysterious croak.

It was cold –
she thought –
she inhaled slowly and then
slowly exhaled warm air
on to her bare arms.

One of her plaits had come undone –
she pulled out the white ribbon and–
attempted at redoing it.

She was failing miserably –
her hair had never come as lose as it had tonight –
she wondered how she had managed to do it the first time.

I don’t see why you’re trying –

it won’t hold anymore.

The voice had startled her –
making her hand tremble –
a gust of cold air lifted the white silk from her palm
and carried it to wherever it had been directed to go –
which was clearly away from her.

She sat up straight – quickly sorting out her hair and her posture –
it had been a while since Soul had spoken to anyone – let a lone a boy.

Who are you?

She asked, politely looking around in the dark surroundings for a familiar face.

Oh finally –
its about time you heard me.

Heard him?
What did he mean by that?

Well it means, just what I said –
I’ve been talking to you for so long –
it’s about time you took notice again.

About time to hear him?

Yes of course –
who else would I speak to –
someone else’s Soul?

Someone else’s soul?
what was he talking about?
who was he and?
how long has he been speaking to me for?

One question at a time –

 you know –
I never grow tired of reminding you who I am –
you are after all mine.

Reminding me?
his?

Well, Soul –
in answer to your previous question –
# makes a royal horn sound #
# laughs #
I am Mate

And I’ve been speaking to you –
for –
I don’t know how long –
from the point when you stopped hearing me.

I forgot him?
but that’s preposterous?
I think I would remember someone who was sharing a star with me.

How do you know I’m even on this star –

it’s because –
this is all familiar to you, Soul –
deep down you know I’ve been here all along.

He was right –
I knew he was here, with me –
on this star –
but how could I have forgotten he was here?

It’s the wait –

the wait drives everyone to forget –
even me.

He had forgotten me too?
but how?
I mean we’re right next to each other.

Being patient is not your strongest asset –

Soul –

I get impatient and forget too –
but not as much as you –
soon you’ll stop hearing me.

How could anyone wait?
it had been so long –
even time could not place a time
she had been waiting, it seemed like forever.

I’ve been waiting too –

just as long as you –
when it is Willed –
then we will be together.

And how much longer would that be?
just a peek –
a slight glimpse of him –
surely then –
she would never forget again.

Don’t do that, Soul –

stay perched against the star –
look we’re leaning on the same side –
is that not enough –
you know I’m here, Soul –
I’ve always been here –
Soul I told you –
SOUL!

She –
of course did not listen –
and as she tried to peak on to the other side of the star –
she fell in to the night.

But Mate was no fool –
he had anticipated this –
long before the idea had sprung in to Soul’s mind –
he was after all her mate.

He peeled the star from –
beneath his feet –
like a cheese string –
and with this –
he created a rope –
which held Soul –
from her feet –
and stopped her falling in to the abyss.

Are you alright?

how many times are you going to do this, Soul –
you’re going to have to hang again –
until the star is Told to pull you back up again.

Look –
I’m as real as you are –
why do you have to see me –
you know I’m here –
in time –
the side of the star that separates us, will melt –
then you can see me –
but not until He wills it –
be patient.

You know what would have happened if you had fallen –

you would have landed on someone else’s star –
and been with someone who was not your Mate –
Soul, please, I beg you –
be patient –
we will be together, eternally.

Let us first prove our devotion to Him –
He will unite us –
He made me –
and then you from me –
remember Him –
and stop looking in to the night so much –
it makes you forget Him –
and with it –
me.

She hung from a star –
How she had gotten there –
She had no idea.
With only one half of her hair plaited –
And the other half remained untied and untidy –
She had been staring so deeply in to the night
from the moment she had fallen- -
She could not recollect the events
that had transpired before.

She must have dropped her ribbon –
and in trying to catch it –
must have fallen –
or something
